Event: Northville-Placid Trail Thru Hike

June 17-25, 2020

Kosher Backpacker’s Brian Kresge is leading a shomer mitzvot thru hike in the Adirondacks, with a zero day for Shabbos.

Participants must be fit and capable as the hike is remote and trail conditions can be difficult.

We will have a kosher parve (pescetarian or vegetarian) resupply available at a modest cost, or you can roll your own resupply. Daily prayer and daf yomi study (if you are undertaking it). Learn how to build an eruv with hiking poles and arrange a transient camp for Shabbos.

About the Northville-Placid Trail

138 miles through the state constitutionally protected Adirondack Park in New York. It was developed by the Adirondack Mountain Club in the 1920s, and is currently maintained by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.

The trail crosses through several wilderness areas, including Shaker Mountain Wild Forest, Silver Lake Wilderness Area, Jessup River Wild Forest, and the High Peaks Wilderness Area.

It’s not a hike with a terrific amount of elevation change, but because it is so lightly used, there can be blowdowns and obstacles along the way. It is also a very remote hike, one of the most remote in the northeast.

Trip Itinerary

TBD closer to trip, based on group size and resupply needs.

Transportation

You will need to provide your own transportation to the trailhead. We will have transportation available at the end of the trail to return you to your car at the Northville Trailhead.

Resupply

You can carry your own food for 9 days, schedule your own resupply, or work with us to resupply at the midway point with kosher vegetarian / pescetarian options.
